A Tilda Santa Claus

This was a birthday gift for my niece. We  made a few other Tilda things this summer, but this seemed so daunting. And then one day I thought I'd give it a go. This isn't a particular area of talent with me, but I'm not so unhappy with the result.

sparta soap Christmas 2013

I made soap for Christmas gifts. I've added an egg to each batch. The egg imparts a wonderful rich, yet fluffy lather.

soap for Christmas gifts

enriched with egg, scented with essential oils (rosemary, peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender, petitgrain, sandalwood, vetiver, peru balsom) and one with fragrance, one with honey, milk & oatmeal, color with clays

p.s. After all of these years, sparta soap is still 'haunt'ing someone! Sooooooooooo funny, thanks (you know who you are) for bringing that to my attention. One really shouldn't skimp on copy.

linen / cotton blend & indigo

I dyed this natural color fabric with indigo. It's a lighter color and perfect for what I'm using it for - tea towels embroidered with polar bears

Illustration Stitch A Long - Wrightson's Frankenstein

for the open illustration choice for the Illustration Stitch A Long group.

I'm using black (and some white) #12 perle cotton for the figure and one strand black DMC floss for background. Ground is cotton backed by muslin. We'll see how this goes. :)

I probably shouldn't have chosen this for this month since next month is Halloween, but I love Wrightson's Frankenstein.

Okay, I was trying for 'sketchy', but I think I ended up with sloppy. But the subject matter is wonderful, isn't it?

Almost finished and good thing as I'm running out of brown yarn.

poppy

I forgot to post the finished poppy. I used an interesting yarn that gave it texture without my having to.
The stem is floss and the leaves are floss and boucle. I love the fabric (Jackson Fabric Arts), it's like the sky for the poppies. :)

Bombaata - finished

I love the texture, but his face should have been padded. I'm not really ready for that so I left it flat.

cute little guy

Dear little Bailey

finally a face shot

He sleeps with his eyes open. :) I don't know why he chose to sleep on
the floor instead of one of his pillows.

Here is Bailey celebrating his 1 month anniversary with us.

It's been forever since I've done this. It's still fun.

garlic charm necklaces

These little gold and silver tone garlic charm necklaces are back in my etsy shop: sandystc.etsy.com . These are fun for people who like to garden, cook with garlic or the occasional friend who fears vampires! (just kidding, i believe it has to be fresh garlic to repel vampires)

Bombaata

from "Conan the Destroyer"

This will be enjoyable. I plan to use bulky curly yarn for his cloak. I'm not sure exactly what I'll do for his hair & beard, yet.

mezcal & worm

This seemed like a fun to do little project - and it was.
(my stitching still isn’t as uniform as it hopefully will be one day)
P.S. It’s not as out of shape as it looks here, I had it ironed pretty stiff.

grapes to embroider

This may be a future project, green applique leaves, under grapes will be flat (padded?) with plum & ecru floss, top layer will have beads with just a little plum floss covering a small part

I forgot to post this picture of what I'll be using.

future project: Bombaata

Bombaata is a character from the film Conan the Destroyer.

The texture of his hair, beard & clothing will be great. I've not embroidered a person yet, but I'm always up for a challenge. I think I will do facial features as line drawing, beard with french knots and then use bulky, novelty, textural yarn, etc., for hair & clothes.

a cross stitch and an embroidery

kitchen cross stitce

from Hardcore StitchCorps on etsy (www.etsy.com/shop/hardcorestitchcorps)
This is a great pattern. I changed the floss colors to more suit my kitchen.

I made many mistakes. Can I not count or stay focused, both of those? I don't know. I didn't see the errors until I was almost finished. I was afraid if I tore them out that I'd never get back to it. And I love the pattern too much to do that.

hedgie & turtle Valentines

This is a pattern from Bustle & Sew that I thought would be fun for a St Valentine's Day swap I'm doing. :) I painted the transfer in gold fabric paint so that it would show under the floss. The heart and cheeks are actually pink. I didn't have as dark a color as I needed, so it looks white. (bustleandsew.com/)

question

Why do people drink smoothies? Why don't they just eat the fruit? It seems so much better to do that than to drink everything.

little crocheted rug

crochet rug

This is my first time to crochet. As you can see it's not straight. :) I enjoyed doing it. I wanted a little rug with some wool content, but didn't want to shell out $400+. In the end my rows became more even, but not even enough. Maybe at some point I'll take it apart and start over. (doubt that!)

The yarn is Patons Cobbles from Michaels.

The size is about 41" x 24".

light bulb

Here is the image I used to embroider the light bulb in this post. It was posted freely, but it's not mine, so don't sell, claim it, etc.

I used pearl cotton 5 and split stitch for the whole thing.
